Heart Health: Don't Neglect Dental Care

Heart disease runs in my family, and I have been determined my entire life to not become a statistic. I eat well, and I exercise every day. I also visit my general practitioner every year for a full health check-up. One day, when discussing my family history of heart disease, my doctor asked me how often I visited the dentist. This was not a question I expected. I told her that I hadn't been to one in a while. She told me that a large part of keeping my heart in good shape was keeping my teeth healthy, and that I should start going to the dentist every 6-months. I researched online and found out how right she was! Now, I never skip a dental check-up. I created this blog to help others with heart problems in their families realize how important dental care is for them.

Some people have average looking teeth and aren't bothered by the appearance of their smile. If you have discolored teeth that aren't natural, then you may be able to get them looking a lot whiter by having teeth whitening treatments done. Sometimes, someone will have an odd tooth that stands out because the shape doesn't match the rest of their teeth. Sometimes, someone will have many teeth that have odd shapes to them. There are also times when someone will want to change something about the shape of their teeth when there isn't necessarily an issue with the shape they have, but they would just prefer a certain look. In cases such as these, the dentist will be able to shape the teeth using a variety of dental hand tools. They can do everything from shortening a tooth that is longer than the others to thinning a tooth out or even giving teeth more curvature or more of a point.

Porcelain veneers are great because they offer a durable and permanent option for fixing a lot of different cosmetic dental issues. Porcelain veneers are designed to be thin shells of strong porcelain material that are tooth-colored and that are adhered permanently over teeth. When in place, they can hide many flaws, such as chips or flaws, with the shapes of teeth. They can also take care of gaps by filling in the space between teeth.
